此作品節錄了二零二二年二月五日(凌晨一時至二時)香港商業電台 881903節目 #失眠藥 點歌環節裡的其中七分鐘。藝術家(點歌者)與唱片騎師以廣東歌,無意地編織出一個關於「異國」和「家」的蒙太奇。

藝術家以此七分鐘的點歌內容為架構,再用影像、文字與紙張的不同切割,嘗試描繪旅居者的五味雜陳。碎片化後的內容成為一組組意義不明的字詞,猶如因文化差異而無法輕易言明的種種。看似錯配、缺失或是零碎的部份,是記憶,也是身份認同。希望透過觀者的理解與想像,去重新拼湊這一段揉雜了期昐、惦念與迷失的蒙太奇。此作品節錄了二零二二年二月五日(凌晨一時至二時) 香港商業電台 881903節目 #失眠藥 點歌環節裡的其中七分鐘。藝術家(點歌者)與唱片騎師以廣東歌,無意地編織出一個關於「異國」和「家」的蒙太奇。


This work features a 7-minute excerpt from the song request segment of the program Philosomnia , which aired on February 5, 2022, from 1 to 2 a.m. on 881903 Commercial Radio Hong Kong. The artist (song requester) and the disc jockey unintentionally weave together a montage about "foreign lands" and "home” through Cantonese songs.

The artist utilises this seven-minute excerpt as a framework, employing diverse cuts of images, texts, and paper to portray the complex emotions experienced by those living abroad. As the content is fragmented and transformed into sets of unreadable words, it echoes the myriad of indescribable experiences arising from cultural differences. The seemingly mismatched, missing, or fragmented aspects resemble the nature of memories, as well as identity. Through the viewers' understanding and imagination of this context, one may reassemble this montage that blends anticipation, nostalgia, and a sense of wandering.

I have become 29. I still appreciate your traceless courage, to have run into an out-of-language mountain town and grown a part of yourself into the hills with scattered roots, so you could have a place to return to when you’re out in the foreign landscape. The 4-day journey was like a pursuit and practice, all of the restlessness and perplexity has now become a form of longing and homesickness.
I was reading a line a couple of days back, “I see the enchantment of the green hills and the hills see the same in me”.

Description

It all started with these four German words: fern, sehen, heim, weh. They somehow concluded how I have been feeling during my stay in a foreign land, especially in recent years - when pain filled almost everyone’s chest at home but the air is still nice and fresh here. The pain lying in words cannot be translated nor communicated. There’s no one to blame - It is just too far.


Each drawer contains photos I took in Europe, mainly in Germany. They all look calm and harmonic, yet they point toward some significant events that happened in Hong Kong these two years. The clues lie subtly in photos and in the German phrases I carved on the drawers' edges. When one understands the hints, one may be able to decrypt. If not, one can still enjoy the exotic European landscapes.

"Let’s have a duo, shall we?"

This featured quote from director Wong Hei Wa and choreographer Chan Wai Lok's POV, the acronym for Point of View (a category of pornographic films), conveys very disparate meanings when placed into different contexts and circumstances. Who is asking the question? What is the occasion? And who is "we"? Notwithstanding how direct or implicit it could be, this questions and invitation is, to a large extent, a reflection of the relationship between two beings.

A duo in the context of dance sometimes implies that one takes the lead and the other follows (their roles can be exchanged, or, at times blurred). The tension between two beings can form an indescribable relationship. Taking elements of erotic movements from sexual intercourse, the film displays a duo's relationship in an exposed-but-obscure condition where intimacy and chemistry will be observed.

Amidst sublime yet obscene metaphors, the video opens the door to imaginative fantasies of how sexual intercourse can be executed in the form of a dance film. Unlike the trends in pornography, the film exploits certain techniques such as camera movements and aspect ratio to intentionally conceal moments of excitement, emphasising the aftertaste of making love.
